Dear Parent/Guardian,

Aldine ISD adopted Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) in 2014. This provision eliminated the requirement of completing a meal application for free/reduced price lunch.  All students received free lunch based on school eligibility and student data.

Two years of operating Community Eligibility Provision has not proved to be financially sustainable for the school district or Child Nutrition department.  In addition, the number of eligible schools has declined.

Dr. Wanda Bamberg, Aldine ISD Superintendent of Schools, made the recommendation to the Aldine Board of Trustees to eliminate the CEP and return to meal applications at the May 17, board meeting.  The board approved the recommendation.  Beginning in August 2016 the district will return to having families complete the meal application to qualify for free or reduced lunch. 

Students who do not qualify for free or reduced lunch will have to pay for lunch.

Please be aware of the following meal programs that will remain free for students.

  • Breakfast – All students Free
  • After School Care Program – Elementary and Intermediate School Students  Free
  • Evening Meal Program – Middle and High School Students Free
  • Summer Meals – All students Free

The cost for 2016-2017 paid lunch cannot be determined until the United States Department of Agriculture approves the calculation.  However, during the 2013-2014 school year, paid lunch cost was $1.45 Elementary and $1.70 Secondary. Reduced price lunch for 2016-2017 will be .40.

Communication regarding the Meal Application process will be provided throughout the summer and beginning of school year.
